What is an Insulated Glass Unit (IGU)?
Most modern windows are built with two or three panes of glass separated by a sealed air or gas-filled space. This insulated glass unit (IGU) is what gives your window its energy efficiency. When the seal around that unit breaks down — due to age, temperature fluctuations, or moisture exposure — air and humidity enter the space between the panes, creating the foggy or cloudy appearance you see.

If my insulated glass unit (IGU) is failed, can I replace the glass or does the whole window need to be replaced?
No, in most instances just the glass can be replaced resulting in restored clarity and energy efficiency.

If just one pane of glass is broken in my insulated glass unit (IGU) does the entire IGU need to be replaced?
Yes, even if just one pane of the insulated glass unit is broken the entire unit needs to be replaced. IGU’s are sealed at the factory and replacing only one pane breaks the airtight seal and lets out any insulating gas (such as argon) if present.

Is there a warranty on IGU replacement?
Granite State Glass offers a one-year workmanship warranty and a five-year limited warranty on the glass from the date of manufacture against seal failure.

Does Granite State Glass repair screens?
Yes, Granite State Glass does repair screens. We can replace just the screen that has a hole in it or rebuild a screen with a broken frame. If you are completely missing a screen GSG can almost always fabricate a screen to match others at your home.

What types of screen do you have a Granite State Glass?
GSG stocks fiberglass, aluminum and pet screen. Other options can be researched and special ordered for our clients.

What is pet screen?
Pet screen is a heavier duty screen meant to be stronger than regular fiberglass screen and specifically engineered to withstand claws, jumping and leaning.
